I can't find my favourite cocktail - cocktail 'x'. Why don't you have it?
We always try and collect as many cocktail recipes as possible, while still keeping a relatively clean and useful site. We've got over 2500 cocktails on our database, which seems a lot at first glance, but considering the amount of different ingredients, and that they keep on growing, it would be impossible to have a collection of every cocktail ever invented. If we don't have it here yet - why not add it.
How do I add my own cocktail recipe?
Why we're glad you asked. Just go to "Add a recipe" and fill out the form. Once you've filled it all out hit "add" and the cocktail recipe will be sent over to our databases, and then onto our team to moderate and make live. If you've got a photo of the cocktail it really helps the moderation speed along and also improves the chances of it being found on the site.
When I login using facebook ( / twitter / google / openid / yahoo), what are you doing with my information?
We can't get information to your passwords or any personally sensitive material. We just use the information that you've chosen from your privacy settings on the relevant
You mention now and again 'completed' lists. Whats a completed list.
A list is complete when it contains more than 2 cocktails (we don't consider a 2 cocktail colletion a real 'list'), has a name and some form of description. Simple hey!
What are all these help icons doing around the site.
Those icons are help icons, and you only need to hover your mouse over the icon to be shown useful info on the section you're using (tablet and smart phone user can click on the icon). We've tried
to place these around to help describe some more in depth sections or to just give a guiding light to help you get the most from the site.
Your recipe is wrong! It should contain 'x'.
It's funny, we thought the same when we first started doing some serious research into cocktail recipes. From working in the industry we knew that different people have different twists on what they think makes a cocktail, but the amount of variations, even on some classics, is bewildering. Although you may think that the cocktail we've got is missing an ingredient, or is just plain wrong, somebody else somewhere doesn't think so. We try to mantain all our cocktails to what the "classic" version is, or what the majority believe is the best or right way, so sorry if you feel differently.
How is the scoring worked out? I love cocktail 'x' but its got a really low score!
The scoring is worked out from a multitude of factors, which is spit into our scoring algorithm, worked around in a washing machine before a final score is worked out.
Its a bit of a trade secret and we actually hired a math professor to help us with generating useful ratings, no really we did.
We try to create a score so that it is represntative of the activity of the cocktail on the site, as well as how good the actual coctkail is. So factors such as
how much it is emailed, texted, looked at, if its contained on lists, how much it is favourited, if it is liked on facebook, was it tweeted about .... these all contribute
to the final score. Then of course you've got just how damn good it is!
Rule of thumb: if you like a cocktail share it everywhere and anywhere and get its rating to increase.
I've added my cocktail but I can't find it on the site yet. Do I need to add it again?
Not unless you added it a long time ago. Once you add a cocktail it goes into our moderation queue. One of our super team members will then have a look at the cocktail and verify or delete it depending if its suitable or not. Unless its got a very rude descriptive name, or is just plain junk, most cocktails get verified, and we try and not let a cocktail sit in our queue for more than a few days. If you added it more than 2 weeks ago, and you feel as thought it should really be on the site, then do add it again. Unfortunately we don't respond to individual requests about why a cocktail got removed or added, so best to just make sure the cocktail method is well written and the ingredients all make sense. If you've got a photo even better!
